Tears of Memories

Made this for art class, a project that had to use colour symbolism. I really hate taking photo of paintings, I'm horrible at it. Blagh, oh well. At least I get the whole thing contra using my scanner.

Used 7 hours of acrylic paint, gouache, flour, masking fluid, palette knife, fingers, music and emotions on a 24 x 30 cm canvas. Oh, and lots of chocolate where used too.

So the story? I wanted to capture sadness in form of loss. The girl is surrounded in darkness symbolizing her sadness through losing a loved one - the feeling of despair, being blind in the darkness and floating around aimlessly.

I almost went with white hair, but I thought it would make this painting too cold. So I went with golden, giving her some lively colours to show that she is a bright person full of life, happiness, warmth - but I've added some green making it colder. And by using my fingers and a palette knife I got her hair to look more wild - it's chaotic and she's losing control.

To the important part; the tears. They are colourful and lively. I wanted to show that even though you're grieving and sad because of a loss, one can not forget all the good memories. They represent all the pretty times she and what she lost spent together. To everyone, remember to hold on to the good times, it's what gets you through.
